What is a rescue truck

A rescue truck carries the tools, power, and lighting a department needs to work a crash, an extrication, or a technical rescue — not water for firefighting, unless it’s a rescue-pumper. • Walk-in vs. non-walk-in — a walk-in rescue has an enclosed, stand-up interior where crews work inside the truck. A non-walk-in, which is most of what we stock, keeps all the equipment in exterior compartments you reach from outside.
• Light vs. heavy — a light rescue is compact, usually on a commercial chassis, and fits a department that carries a smaller tool load. A heavy rescue is a full heavy-rescue box with deep compartments and more onboard power.
• Wet vs. dry — a wet rescue, also called a rescue-pumper, carries water and a pump and can fight fire. A dry rescue carries tools and equipment only.

Every rescue passes the same 150-point inspection before it’s listed. We check the engine, transmission, axles, brakes, suspension, and all key electrical components — the lighting package, scene lights, and the generator included. The drivetrain and suspension get the same attention they’d get on a pumper. At a minimum every truck gets fresh fluids and service, and when we find a problem, we fix it before the truck goes out. On a wet rescue that carries a pump, a third-party company pump-tests it and certifies it to NFPA standards.
